LIST PICK
PHOBOPHOBES CHILD STAR
Back in January South London sleaze enthusiasts Phobophobes released one of the most criminally underrated albums of the year so far. Having already unveiled the excellent videos for previous List Picks 'Where Is My Owner?' and 'The Never Never', 'Child Star' is latest cut from Miniature World to receive the visual treatment. Musically set in a filthy, repetitive bass grove, 'Child Star' channels the down and dirty rock'n'roll of The Stooges mixed with The Leather Nun. As the title suggests, it's a social critique of pushy parents and "an obsession with fame and notoriety and how often it leads to the demise of a person, building them up until they’re ready to blow." The garish clip directed by long-term collaborator Niall Trask elaborates on this idea, focussing on a grown up child star "singing along to the song in the privacy of their own imagination...It's a psychedelic, fit inducing assault on the viewer...Simple. And perfect in our eyes." -Holly Mullineaux
